Multi-Cultural Ministry Outreach
Our
diocese has begun
additional ministry to the Hispanic and African-American populations.
We currently
have three African-American clergy in three predominately black
parishes, with plans to add an African-American Missioner for
the Black Belt region of the Diocese.
A Hispanic Missioner has
opened the door for the growing Hispanic population
through ministry initiatives in six
congregations around the diocese, including
La Gracia Iglesia Episcopal at St. Michael’s, Birmingham. There are
four capital projects that address unmet needs for this new growing ministry:
o Expansion of fellowship
space at de La Gracia in Birmingham.
o Additional space, including restrooms at Todos Sanctos in
Aliceville.
o Expansion of education space for a bi-lingual child care
program at St.
Timothy’s in Athens.
o Development of a Hispanic Education Center at Holy Spirit,
Alabaster.
FACTS:
• The Hispanic population is the fastest growing
in Alabama and the U.S.
• LaGracia requires either its own property on a new site or the renovation
of
a current site
•
An African American missioner will enable us to build new and diverse congregations
and ministries.
• The current growth necessitates the training of 12 additional clergy
in order
to better serve these congregations.
